Isle of Man TT fans arrived with the Steam Packet

Motorcycle bookings with the Isle of Man Steam Packet are more than 10% up on last year, according to the ferry company.

The Steam Packet has also confirmed the return of the TT Taster Offer, which allows fans to visit the TT during Practice Week for just £99 for a motorcycle and rider.

The offer has already proved popular, but the ferry firm said there are places left.

Steam Packet Company chief executive Mark Woodward said:

“We have increased our vehicle capacity for TT by around 50% over the past decade or so. Our vessels are once again scheduled to operate round the clock and as in previous years we have already chartered some additional tonnage for the TT period.”

“Advance bookings for motorcycles are ahead of the same period last year and are indicative of the TT’s continued popularity. Many peak sailings are already fully booked for vehicles, so the TT Taster Offer will help boost visitor numbers during the festival’s quieter periods, maximising a vital contribution to the local economy.”

He added:

“It is very doubtful that additional vessels will be made available to us for the peak days, although we will continue to search, but there is still space for foot passengers throughout the fortnight.”

Steam Packet Holidays is also offering three-night packages, which include ferry travel with motorcycle and three nights’ bed and breakfast accommodation, from just £195 per person.

Meanwhile, the Isle of Man’s Department of Economic Development has launched the Homestay scheme registration for the TT and the Isle of Man Festival of Motorcycling 2013.

Registration forms have been sent to home owners who have previously registered, offering them the opportunity to register for the scheme again next year. Householders who have not previously registered, but who are considering offering Homestay accommodation, are advised to register their interest with the department as soon as possible.

All Homestay accommodation is inspected by Isle of Man Tourism to ensure it meets the required quality standard as detailed in the Homestay Hosts’ information pack. Homestay can be offered during TT for any number of nights between May 25 and June 9, 2013,  and for the Isle of Man FoM between August 17 and September 1, 2013. Last year the Department registered just under 800 properties.

Department of Economic Development political member with responsibility for Tourism Geoff Corkish said:

“The growing demand for Homestay is proof positive of the continuing success of our TT Races attracting increasing numbers of visitors and fans from around the world.”

“This peak demand for accommodation could not be met were it not for the enthusiasm of Island householders who have embraced the scheme. It is a great opportunity for residents to share in the world status of this unique event and provide their own welcome to our Island.”

Registration for the TT Homestay scheme closes on April 26, 2013. For further information call 686802, email homestay@gov.im or go to www.visitisleofman.com/homestay.
