Isle of Man TT regular Rico Penzkofer has confirmed his retirement from racing.

The German made his TT debut in 2009 and was a strong competitor around the Mountain course, claiming a career best finish of 12th in the 2009 Senior TT.

At the end of the Macau Grand Prix, where he finished 17th on the brand new BMW HP4, Penzkofer announced he would not race again and instead focus on his job as team manager in the FIM Endurance World Championship and at several road racings.

Finishing 17th was fitting end to his career, as the Böhlen rider observed ‘after all, I rode races for 17 years’.

Penzkofer added:

“I had a real good start, but did a little mistake in the Lisboa-bend. That’s why I dropped from 11th to 17th in the order again.”

“Anyway, I saw the chequered flag at my farewell here in Macau and this is something to take with me.”

“It was a pleasure to give the BMW HP4 it’s race debut here and to ride it around Macau. The era of the HP4 is just beginning, the one of Penz as a rider ends here.”
