The late Geoff Cannell interviews TT legend Mick Grant at TT Legends on the Prom during the Centenary celebrations

Popular TT commentator Geoff Cannell has died.

Geoff, 65, was taken ill on Monday and passed away in the Isle of Man’s Noble’s Hospital. He leaves wife Lynda and daughter Zoe.

For many TT fans, Geoff was the voice of the event, offering knowledgeable, informative and entertaining commentary on the action.

Over almost 40 years he broadcast from out on the course, in the pit lane and inside the TT Grandstand Tower, his voice becoming an essential part of the TT experience for many.

He was in his element during the Centenary TT earlier this year, and demonstrated his passion, knowledge and enthusiasm throughout the festival.

Those lucky enough to attend the TT Legends on the Prom evening will long remember Geoff’s excitement as he interviewed his TT heroes and introduced some of the iconic machines from 100 years of the event.

He also served as a press officer for the TT and several other Isle of Man events.

Geoff was heavily involved in a variety of motorsports, including trials, and other sports. He served as sports editor, as well as news editor, at Manx Radio, and also regularly wrote for newspapers about motorcycling.

He was also a very active member of the Isle of Man community, serving as a member of the Manx parliament and member of the Board of Education.

Tributes are already being paid to Geoff by TT fans. To read the tributes, or post your own, click here.
