Biography
The big Lusk man seems almost a veteran now but having won the Manx Grand Prix when only just out of his teens, it’s easy to overlook the fact he’s still only 27.
Martin has gone about his task more steadily than his peers and this measured approach had initially seen him reap the dividends having stepped on to the TT podium in the 2005 Superbike TT. A clutch of fourth place finishes have followed but consistent machinery problems have prevented him from finishing higher and going quicker.
Indeed, Martin’s had a frustrating time with his bikes and this had led to many road racing fans writing him off one more than one occasion. Martin knows he has the ability to win TT’s and he’s determined to arrive on the Island in 2008 with the machinery he needs to kick on. If he does, he will surely prove the doubters wrong.
Supersport success may be hard to come by for the big man, but in the Superbike and Superstock classes, Finbar will always be in contention. A switch to the legendary and evocative MV Agusta for the 2007 Superstock TT showed great promise and the experience will have stood him in good stead for a greater challenge in 2008.
Regrettably Martin lost his life in a racing incident at the 2008 Tandragee Road Races.
