Biography

An immensely stylish rider, Graham first appeared in the 1938 Lightweight Race. It was an inauspicious beginning, Graham managed 12th on an OK Supreme in his first year and suffered a retirement two years later in the 1939 Lightweight Race. After the war Graham returned in 1947 on the revolutionary A.J.S. Porcupine. Two years later he came close to winning the 1949 Senior before having to push in from Cronk-ny-Mona to take 10th place. He did however become the first 500cc World Champion that year. He then changed to MV Agustas and took second place in the 1952 Senior. His only win came in the 1953 Ultra-Lightweight Race; tragically he lost his life just a few days later in the Senior Race, in an accident at the bottom of Bray Hill on lap two. Graham’s TT appearances and successes epitomised his unique skills on a motorcycle and many who watched him race feel privileged to have done so.
