Biography

Darran Lindsay, like many others before him first rode on the Mountain Course in the MMCC Newcomers Races. 1997 was the year and his debut ride proved to be a victorious one, taking the chequered flag in the Senior class on his 600cc AG/Nibbles Suzuki at a speed of 105.17 mph. Known at ‘home’ as a ‘lightweight machine’ specialist this was no mean achievement. 1998 saw the Ulsterman return to the Manx Grand Prix – this time taking 4th in the Junior Manx on the 600 Suzuki. That year also saw the introduction of the Ultra Lightweight Manx Grand Prix. Not only did Darran win the race setting race and lap records in the process, be also became the first rider of a 125cc racing machine to lap the Snaefell Mountain Course at over 100 mph in the Manx Grand Prix! The following year, Darran made an impressive debut in the Ultra Lightweight TT, finishing 4th at 106.37 mph. Only 50 seconds behind race winner Ian Lougher, with Owen McNally and Gary Dynes 2nd and 3rd. The year 2000 saw the likable Ulsterman with four rides – the Ultra Lightweight and Lightweight, plus the Junior and Senior TT’s. His first ride in the Lightweight resulted in a retirement, followed by 5th in the Ultra Lightweight Race. The Junior presented him with a 15th finishing position, whereas the Senior on the same 600cc Nibbles Yamaha that provided him with his second D.N.F. of the week.

The ever-cheerful Lindsay returns to the Island for the first time since 2000 in what will be only his third appearance at the TT. However, he has taken two Manx Grand Prix wins and his performances in Ireland over the last three years earmark him as one to watch. It will be his first time on a Superbike so his best chances will come in the Junior events and he is arguably Ireland’s best 600cc rider, capable of beating anyone on his day. Like Finnegan, a win may be out of reach, but a podium finish would be a good bet.
