Biography
Donal started racing with a 197 Villiers in the 200CC class at the
Killinchy 150 in 1971.
I graduated to a 350 Aermacchi in 1973 and had some good results on the Irish Road circuits. The same year I went to the Junior Manx Grand Prix and fell in love with the Isle of Man.
A 250 Yamaha saw some good results in 1974 with several second places to Ray McCullough at Killinchy and Skerries and a sixth place at the Lightweight Manx.
1975 saw my debut at the TT but machine problems meant poor results. The highlight of 1975 was eighth place at the Ulster Grand Prix in the 250 class. 1976 saw a bronze replica at the TT and my first 100mph laps.
1977 was a short season due to lack of funds and in 1978 I retired from racing after a silver and bronze at the TT.
Nowadays I compete in the veteran’s class in local bicycle races - less speed but plenty of fun.
