Biography
The flying Ulsterman! Artie had a short but brilliant TT career which saw him fail to finish just once, in his very first race, the 1947 Junior. However his road racing talents were obvious as he took second in the Senior that same year! Still on works Nortons in 1948, he won the Senior and finished third in the Junior. For 1949 it was third in the Junior and fourth in the Senior, then in his last year 1950, he won the Junior and took second place in the Senior. A terrific competitor, when Artie raced it took something special to beat him. A promising career was cut short with a heavy accident in the 1950 Belgian Grand Prix and many are convinced his successes at the TT could have been even greater.
