Biography
It was a 1922 debut for Jimmy and in a long career stretching to 1934 astonishingly he only won one TT race - the 1934 Lightweight on a Rudge. He also finished second in the Junior and Senior that year on Nortons. This was scant reward for a brilliant career on the Isle of Man. He set numerous record and fastest laps before retiring from races and was the first man to set 60mph, 70mph and 80mph laps of the course. These feats were acknowledged by naming a trophy after him. The Jimmy Simpson Trophy is annually awarded to the TT rider who sets the fastest lap of the week. When, in his last appearance at the TT, he finally took that elusive win - it was undoubtedly one of the most popular of all time.
