Early arrivals at TT 2019 set for thrilling classic racing at Billown
Thursday 14 February 2019
2019 looks sets to be a classic year for fans of the Pre-TT races with nearly 100 entries already received.
With nine races across the three-day event, the Blackford Financial Services Pre-TT Classic Races are a great draw on the opening weekend of TT practices.
Held on the 4.25 mile Billown Course (home of the Southern 100 races every July), the Pre-TT Classic Races feature Senior, Junior, 250cc/350cc Singles and 850cc classes, all for bikes of a type built before 1972 (1967 for two-strokes).
As well as the conventional classic machines, spectators have the chance to see old-fashioned "front exit" sidecars and 250cc two-stroke post-Classic machines in action.
The most popular class in the nine-race programme at present is the Senior (500cc) with 20 entries with the Junior (350cc) race attracting nineteen, whilst the 250cc/350cc Singles race has eighteen, followed by the 850cc Class with sixteen.
Based near Castletown, close to the Isle of Man's only airport, the races always attract a good crowd of race fans looking to enjoy some action before the practising begins on the TT Course.
Recent winners have included TT stars such as Jamie Coward and Michael Evans and Guy Martin was a big supporter of the event before his retirement from road racing.
Early entries have been received from Classic specialists Will Loder, Alec Whitwell, Steve Ferguson, Barry Davidson and Jeff Ward.
The ever-popular sidecars have so far 5 entries which include Wal Saunders, Tony Thirkell, Howard Langham and Eddy Wright.
The Pre-TT Classic Road Races have been run since 1988, and 2019 sees the 31st running of the popular races with Blackford Financial Services continuing the title sponsorship from 2000.
The 2019 Blackford’s Pre-TT Classic Road Races takes place on Friday 24th, Saturday 25th and Bank Holiday Monday 27th May.
