Carl Cox Motorsport and 15-time Isle of Man TT winner Michael Dunlop renew their successful partnership for 2018, with the Northern Irish star opening his season with a win on his new Supersport machine at the tricky Cookstown 100 event.
World renowned music producer and motorsport enthusiast Carl Cox first joined forces with Road Racing legend Michael Dunlop last year, witnessing first hand the excitement of Michael’s memorable Supersport TT win together in June. Looking to build on that partnership in 2018, Carl Cox Motorsport is again featured heavily on the MD Racing BMW Superstock and Honda Supersport machines, with an additional reference to the globe trotting DJ on Dunlop’s Tyco BMW Superbike.
As a first outing on his new PTR prepped CBR600RR Supersport machine and Tyco BMW S1000RR Superbike, Dunlop entered the Cookstown 100 event in Co. Tyrone for the first time since 2015. The Ballymoney rider duly took the opening Supersport 600 win at the Orritor circuit against stiff local competition and crossed the finishing line first in the Superbike race but was adjudged to be second on corrected times. The event witnessed several accidents and poor weather so was abandoned early.
Dunlop will be glad to have got some early laps in, before the NW200 and the ‘big one’, the Isle of Man TT, where he will be looking to add to his impressive 15 win tally.
The MD Racing team announcement completes the Carl Cox Motorsport Road Racing line up, with Carl also supporting seven-time world Champion Tim Reeves and his passenger Mark Wilkes as the bid for glory at the 2018 Isle of Man TT. The duo are also competing in the FIM World Sidecar Championship, where they took the series opening win at Le Mans recently.
Commenting on the renewed partnership with Carl Cox Motorsport, Michael Dunlop said;
"It’s fantastic to have Carl back on board for 2018, he’s a mega ambassador for us, and the team couldn’t do what they do without his support. I’m obviously pleased to get that first win on the MD Racing SS600 and I think the bike is looking spot on in its new colours!’”
Carl Cox commented,
“It’s fantastic to be back supporting Michael as he looks to add to his incredible tally of 15 TT wins. I first met him properly last year about five minutes before he set off down Bray Hill and then a few hours later we were standing in the winner’s enclosure having taken our first TT victory! I can’t wait to be back on the island this year, where hopefully we’ll secure a few more trophies.”
Gavin Sokolich, Brand Manager Carl Cox Motorsport added:
“After an incredible season in 2017, which saw Michael take TT victory in the Supersport class and Tim Reeves dominate the British Sidecar Championship, it made perfect sense to remain with both for 2018. There’s no denying either’s credentials and we’re thrilled to be back together where our eyes are set firmly on two and three wheel success, with a perfect opener from both at Cookstown and Le Mans!”
