South African motorcycle racing legend Paddy Driver has been invited to join the Centenary TT celebrations.

He will ride in the Dunlop TT Lap of Honour, an event that will honour past heroes of the TT on Monday.

Driver competed in 18 TT races from 1958 to 1965, riding in both the Junior (350cc) and Senior (500cc) TT classes every year. In 1961 he was one of the few who rode in all four categories - 125cc, 250cc, 350cc, and 500cc.

His best finish in the Senior TT was sixth in 1959, but Driver was a regular top 10 finisher during his eight years of competition in the Island.

During this time he struck up a firm friendship with Mike Hailwood and the two travelled together as they raced on the European GP circuit.

In 1965 Driver finished third in the 500cc World Championship on a Matchless G50 single behind Hailwood and Giacomo Agostini, each of whom was riding a new multi-cylinder machine.

Driver will ride a 1958 500cc Manx Norton in the Lap of Honour. The bike was previously owned by Joe Potts, sponsor of the legendary Bob McIntyre.
