You’ve got the TT bug, and you've seen how a travel package can make booking a breeze. Now, let’s talk about the journey itself. Your adventure truly begins the moment you start travelling to our unique island home in the middle of the Irish Sea.

Your two main options for getting here are by sea or by air. Both have their pros and cons, especially for international visitors. Let’s break them down.

Travelling by Sea: The Classic TT Pilgrimage

For many fans, the TT experience starts on the ferry. The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is the sole operator, running services from Liverpool & Heysham in England, and sometimes from Dublin & Belfast.

The Atmosphere: The ferry is a festival before the festival. You’ll be surrounded by hundreds of fellow fans and a stunning variety of motorcycles. The excitement is palpable, and it’s an incredible way to get into the TT spirit.

Bringing Your Vehicle: This is the biggest advantage. If you want to bring your own motorcycle, car, or van to the island, the ferry is your only option.

The Challenge: As we mentioned last week, demand is astronomical. Sailings sell out a year in advance. Navigating the booking process can be tough, and getting to the port cities (especially Heysham) can add another layer of complexity for international travellers.

Travelling by Air: Fast, Convenient & Simple

Flying into the Isle of Man’s Ronaldsway Airport (IOM) is the fastest and often simplest way to get here, particularly for those coming from further afield. Regular flights connect the island to major UK and Irish hubs like London, Manchester, Liverpool, and Dublin.

Speed & Convenience: A flight from London takes about an hour. For anyone making a long-haul journey from the Americas or Australia, connecting through a major UK hub and hopping on a short flight is incredibly efficient.

Easy Logistics: You arrive on the island fresh and ready to go. You can pick up a pre-booked hire car or use the excellent public transport to get to your accommodation.

The View: On a clear day, the aerial view of the island as you descend is breathtaking and a fantastic way to get your bearings!

So, Which is Right for You?

Choose the Ferry if: You are bringing your own motorcycle, or the communal “TT pilgrimage” atmosphere is a must-have part of your bucket list.

Choose to Fly if: You are travelling from outside the UK and value speed, convenience, and simplicity after a long-haul flight.
