TT winner and former World Champion Bill Lomas has died.

The 79-year-old motorcycle racing great passed away at Kingsville Hospital, Mansfield, after suffering a suspected heart attack.

Lomas won two TT wins in 1955, and claimed the 1955 and 1956 350cc titles for Italian marque Moto Guzzi. He also rode for MV Agusta, AJS, Matchless and many more teams.

He competed in an age of greats, against the likes of Geoff Duke, John Surtees and Bob McIntyre, claiming numerous Grand Prix wins and nine Silver Replicas in the Isle of Man.

After retiring from road racing in 1957, aged just 29, Lomas ran successful motorcycle dealerships.

He is survived by wife Kathy and sons Mike and Tim. Funeral details have not yet been announced.
