Former TT Marshals Association chairman Roger Hurst has been appointed Chief Marshal for the 2008 TT races.

ACU Events Ltd, which was recently appointed by the Isle of Man TT Races Co-ordinating committee to organise the competitive racing side of the TT, made the announcement today.

Mr Hurst has a long and distinguished TTMA with marshalling the TT Mountain Circuit, including serving as association chairman for 15 years, Chief Marshal in 2006 and 2007 and working as a marshal for 33 years.

He will be working closely with Bill Carden, the newly-elected Chairman of the TTMA, and all its officials, to ensure the safe running of the TT races next year.

The Chief Marshal is responsible for ensuring manning levels around the course are met, reporting into the Clerk of the Course, and working with the course maintenance team and the ACU Road Race Manager.

Mr Hurst said:

‘I’m delighted to have been invited by the new TT organisation to again perform this role, and have been very happy to accept.’
‘It is very flattering to have been considered and I’m looking forward to working with the new team to run a successful operation.’

Isle of Man Tourism and Leisure Minister Adrian Earnshaw added:

‘I’m delighted to have Roger back on board.’
‘His great experience made him the number one choice for this important and highly visible position, and the appointment demonstrates we are keen to use the best on-Island people to work alongside ACU Events Ltd to deliver a successful TT in 2008.’
