Conor Cummins gets his first taste of TT action in 2012

Conor Cummins has been forced to withdraw from today’s Dainese Superbike TT due to his hand injury.

The Manxman broke two bones in his right hand in a crash at the North West 200 two weeks ago. Cummins had an operation, Hyperbaric Chamber treatment and physio and has been able to take part in practice. However, it has been confirmed Cummins has decided not to race on safety grounds.

He said although the injury was improving, it was unclear if he could last the six laps of the Superbike race. He is hopeful the situation will improve, meaning he will be able to compete in the remaining races at the 2012 Isle of Man TT fuelled by Monster Energy.

The Tyco Suzuki racer said:

“I have got to keep sight of the bigger picture everyone wants to win the Senior TT and that includes me. I am going to look at it on Monday and see how its looking for the rest of the week.”

“I’ve done probably about 7 practice laps, the big priority was to get qualified in all classes and I’ve done that.”

“I’m a big boy, I can deal with these sorts of things, it makes you stronger really.”

Team boss Philip Neill added:

“It’s a big disappointment for our team and sponsors, but none more so than Conor and the TT fans who came to see him race.”

“The writing was on the wall last night, but we gave Conor a night to sleep on it. I am very, very impressed with him making the decision.”
