Ian Hutchinson believes he has made significant progress since his return to the Isle of Man TT for the first time since breaking his leg in 2010.

The Swan Yamaha rider suffered a serious fracture in September 2010, and made his racing return at last year’s Macau Grand Prix.

Unfortunately, he suffered another broken bone in his left leg in an accident earlier this year, setting back his hopes for a strong return to racing.

However, Hutchy made it to the TT and believes his performance is improving with each day.

Despite very little time on either the Supersport or Superstock machines, Hutchinson claimed 9th in the first Monster Energy Supersport race and 11th in the Royal London 360 Superstock, both held on Monday.

The Supersport outing allowed rider and team to work on the setup of the YZF-R6, which could help him move up the finishing order in the second Monster Energy Supersport TT, scheduled for later today.

Hutchinson said:

“Although the results are a long way from where I want to be, we had hardly any track time with either the Supersport or Superstock bikes so I can't be too disappointed.”

“I've made some headway into how we are approaching the races now and I think we've found some data for the R6 which will help in the second race.”

Team principal Shaun Muir added:

“Ian is obviously disappointed with the result sheets so far, but we have made some significant progress not only with the way we are setting the bikes up, but also how we are approaching each event.”
