The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and local employees of security team G4S teamed up to ensure the safe delivery of the new Lightweight TT trophy.

Both companies donated their time and services free of charge to deliver the new trophy, which was made by Midlands-based BDG. The trophy, which weighs approximately 5 kilograms, features a miniature mercury on the top and is made of silver. It will join the other prestigious trophies in the priceless TT collection.

Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said:

“When we were approached to assist in getting the new trophy to the island we were very happy to be involved, it is another of the many ways that the Steam Packet are able to put something back in to the TT to help make the event happen.”

More than 50 riders have entered the new BikerPetition.co.uk Lightweight TT race, which was due to take place today. Bad weather led to today's racing being cancelled, so the race for SuperTwin machines is now scheduled for 10.45am on Saturday, ahead of the PokerStars Senior TT.

Leading racers due to take part including Ryan Farquhar, Michael and William Dunlop, Ryan Farquhar, Cameron Donald, Michael Rutter and Ian Lougher.

Isle of Man Tourism Political Member Geoff Corkish:

“As an organisation we rely heavily on our partners such as the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and G4S who both play integral roles in the successful delivery of the event. Both companies work tirelessly behind the scenes and we are very grateful for their continued support.”
