Ryan Farquhar wins inaugural Lightweight TT for SuperTwin machines
Pre-race favourite Ryan Farquhar roared to victory in the BikerPetition.co.uk Lightweight race which brought the 2012 Isle of Man TT fuelled by Monster Energy to a close on Saturday.
After a day of frustrating delays caused by bad weather, the race for SuperTwin machines got under way at 6.30pm and it soon developed into a battle between Farquhar on the KMR Kawasaki and James Hillier, also on a Kawasaki.
Farquhar pulled away, but Hillier came back into contention when the Dungannon star pulled into the pits at the end of lap one for his stop. Over Lap two, Farquhar quickly started to claw back Hillier's advantage and when Hillier came into the pit lane at the end of lap two, Farquhar burst into an unassailable lead, taking the flag at the end of the three laps by 28.99 seconds.
KMR teammate Michael Rutter came home third, over 5 seconds further back, while Cameron Donald came out on top in his nio-and-tuck battle for fourth with Russ Mountford.
