Ivan Lintin continues fine 2012 Isle of Man TT form
After a successful campaign at the 2012 Isle of Man TT fuelled by Monster Energy, Ivan Lintin continued his good form at Sunday’s Barry Sheene Classic Road Races.
The programme of races at the Oliver’s Mount circuit in Scarborough was disrupted by rain, but 10 races were completed, with Lincolnshire’s Lintin claiming victory in four contests.
Lintin started the opening leg of the Modern Solos up to 400cc and SuperTwins in pole position, took the hole shot and led by 3.4 seconds at the end of the first of eight laps.
He extended his lead over Scott Campbell to 10.8s on lap two, with David Bell in third. At half distance the gap was 21.9s, but it was Bell who was now 2nd with Campbell 3rd.
On lap four Campbell dropped to 4th as Rab Davie went past and at three-quarters distance the leader’s advantage was up to 29s, with Bell and Davie separated by 2.9s.
At the chequered flag, Lintin took the victory by 32s from Bell with Davie taking the final podium place in a Kawasaki 1-2-3.
Next up was the Modern Solos 600cc and over race, and it was again Bardney rider Lintin who held the lead at the end of the opening lap of eight, closing followed by the Goodings brothers Mick and Mark.
A lap later Mick Goodings took the lead from Lintin by half a second with another strong runner from the 2012 TT, Dean Harrison, up to 3rd. However, Lintin was back in front a lap later, building a lead of 1s, which had grown to 3.152s by half-distance.
Lintin continued to pull away on lap five, while Keith Pringle moved into 3rd after Harrison slipped off at Mere Hairpin. Lintin continued to build his lead as the battle for 2nd heated up, eventually taking the win by 3.6s with Pringle and Mick Goodings completing the podium.
In the second leg of the Modern Solos over 400cc and the Supertwins, again over eight laps, Lintin once again snatched the initial lead and by half-distance had opened a 4.347s gap over David Bell, with Rab Davie a further 10s back.
Gaining more than a second per lap Lintin took the chequered flag some 11s ahead of Bell, who was 16s in front of Davie.
Lintin’s 4th victory came in the penultimate race of the programme, for Modern machines over 600cc.
Jamie Coward take the hole-shot and led the opening lap from Lintin, but was relegated to second on lap two as Lintin passed and built a 0.5s lead, with Mick Goodings slotting into 3rd.
The top three remained the same at half-distance, but Coward was holding on to Lintin and keeping the leader honest with the lead only increasing slightly to 0.8s.
A lap later Coward set the fastest lap of the race at 73.158mph, despite challenging conditions, to increase his lead over Goodings, but Lintin went even faster on lap five, at 73.415mph, to increase his lead to 3.8s and at the flag took victory by 4.792s from Coward and Goodings.
It was an excellent event for Lintin, who had enjoyed a series of excellent performances at the 2012 TT, securing two top 12 finishes, three silver replicas, a first ever 120mph+ lap plus 7th in the BikerPetition.co.uk Lightweight TT, his best finish of the 2012 TT. He also finished 7th overall in the TT Privateers Championship, despite only his two Supersport finishes counting.
Also at Oliver’s Mount on Sunday, TT racer Russ Mountford finished second in the combined Geoff Barry Classic Superbike race, behind Coward, in worsening conditions which led to the race being red flagged at the end of lap five.
