Isle of Man TT winner Gary Johnson says his team needs something extra
Isle of Man TT winner Gary Johnson says his Samsung Honda team needs to find ‘something extra’ before the next round of the National Superstock 1000 Championship.
Johnson was in action at Oulton Park this weekend, where conditions alternated from fine and dry to heavy rain.
He qualified 13th and was running in 12th position in the race when a red flag brought an early end to the contest.
Johnson, from Broughton near Brigg, made a good start to the scheduled 14-lap race and completed the first lap in 6th place, just behind teammate Jason O’Halloran.
However, as the race unfolded Johnson lost ground and was running in 11th when the safety car was deployed. When the car left the track and racing got underway again Johnson lost another place and was 12th when the red flag terminated the race after nine laps.
This result gave Johnson another four championship points, putting him 13th on 32 points.
The next round is at Brands Hatch.
Johnson said:
“I had a mega start in the race, but it didn’t completely go according to plan.”
“I was losing a bit of time on the straights and unfortunately a couple of times I got pushed a bit wide and that put me down the order.”
“The Samsung Honda is working well but we just need to find something extra for Brands Hatch.”
Team Manager Havier Beltran added:
“It has been an extremely hard weekend for the Samsung Honda team and the results we leave Oulton Park with are certainly not the ones we know we can achieve.”
“Gary was unhappy with his result too as he was duffed up, but now we are looking forward to the next round at Brands Hatch.”
