Isle of Man TT winner Gary Johnson secured a podium finish around the Dundrod circuit on Saturday.
Johnson, riding for Padgetts MMCG Honda Racing, finished 2nd in the first Ulster Grand Prix Superbike race. He also secured 4th place finishes in the Supersport and second Superbike as well as 4th in the Dundrod 150 Superbike race on Thrsuday.
Johnson, from Broughton near Brigg, led the field around the first lap of Saturday’s opening Superbike race, just a second ahead of Guy Martin with Michael Dunlop a further second adrift.
On lap two Martin took the lead and there was less than a second covering the three leading riders. As the race progressed the gap was reduced to a mere 0.6s and eventually Dunlop moved ahead of Johnson at the end of the Flying Kilo before taking the lead on lap 6 of 7.
However, Dunlop made a mistake and slid off leaving Martin to snatch the win just 5 seconds ahead of Johnson, who in turn was some 8 seconds ahead of Conor Cummins in 3rd.
Johnson’s next outing is on home tarmac at Cadwell Park over the Bank Holiday weekend where he will contest round 10 of the National Superstock 1000cc championship for Samsung Honda over the weekend of August 25-27.
