Isle of Man TT winner Gary Johnson battled his way from 20th on the grid to finish 10th in the latest round of the National Superstock 1000cc Championship.

The Lincolnshire rider Gary Johnson was back in action for the Samsung Honda squad at Donington Park on Sunday, and was pleased to leave with 6 more points.

Johnson has now moved up to 11th overall, with 50 championship points.

Riding the Samsung Honda Fireblade, Johnson got a good start and powered through from 20th on the gird to 14th place on the opening lap.

The safety car was deployed because of a crash further downfield, but when the car left the track at the end of lap three Johnson immediately moved up to 13th.

One lap later he passed Jimmy Storrar to take up 12th place and then benefited from Marshall Neill having to retire with a mechanical failure to move up to 11th. With four laps remaining of the 15-lap race, Johnson made up ground to take up 10th place and remained in that position to the chequered flag.

Johnson said:

“It was good being back with the Samsung Honda team again this weekend and I think we can try and keep building now from here.”

“It has been a weekend where we have kept trying to move forward and I think we should be aiming higher again at Silverstone.”

Team Manager Havier Beltran added:

“Gary continued to build on his previous races and I think there is more to come from him at Silverstone.”

The Superstock riders miss the next round of the British Superbike championship at Assen, but will be back on track at Silverstone for the penultimate round of the series.
