Jamie Coward joins Paul Owen for Classic TT
Paul Owen and Jamie Coward have become the latest road racing names to be confirmed for the inaugural Classic TT in August.
The pair will race Kawasaki ZXR 750cc machinery prepared by Mistral Racing in the Formula 1 Classic TT Superbike race after being invited to compete by Ian Harrison of Mistral Racing, who, along with Dave Dean and Nigel Fitzsimmonds, will provide support and machinery.
Harrison and Dean were successful racers, winning championships and competing at a high level on track and the roads, and still have a hunger to be involved in racing. Fitzsimmonds is a proud sponsor of the racing and has helped young riders up to BSB level with his support.
Combining the experience of Harrison, Dean, Owen and Coward creates a wealth of race setup knowledge, and with support from Fitzsimmonds and the rest of the team, it is expected to be competitive at new Classic TT event, which takes place on August 23 to 26.
The two race machines will be prepped by Harrison and his team at Mistral Racing. The bikes are Kawasaki ZXR750 Ks, which come with flat slide carbs and close ratio gearboxes as standard, as they were the homologation model for World Superbike in the day.
The team will be bracing the frames and the swingarms, and making all the parts at Mistral Racing to WSB spec. The engines will be tuned with the help of Tony Scott, using his wealth of experience building TT motors.
Mistral will also manufacture all the bodywork, kit airboxes and modify fuel tanks to provide a competitive package for the Classic TT races.
