TT stars warm-up at Spring Cup
TT aces led the charge at the Ian Watson Spring Cup held at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough over the weekend.
The first ‘real roads’ race of the year is an opportunity for riders and their teams to shake-down their machines and see how they perform in anger after a long winter building and testing them.
Guy Martin, a veteran of the North Yorkshire circuit and previous winner, adapted well to his new BMW mount and secured the overall victory in the Spring Cup races with first and fourth place finishes across the two legs.
In the first of the two Cup races Martin was trailed home by Ryan Farquhar, back on a 1000cc superbike for the first time since mid-2012. Ivan Lintin completed the top three.
It was a satisfying meeting for Lintin and his RC Express Racing team as they secured several wins in different classes and never strayed out of the top four.
2014 Lightweight TT winner Dean Harrison gave Yamaha’s new YZF- R1M it’s first road racing victory as he took the Mar-Train liveried machine to the top step on Saturday’s Senior race first round.
Daley Mathison showed great form clinching the win in the second leg of the Spring Cup races from Tom Weedon, before going on to add a race win in the Junior Supersport class.
Up-and-coming TT star James Cowton was another young rider to take the chequered flag as he scored a six-and-a-half second margin over Ivan Lintin in the first 650cc race.
The newly formed TT sidecar pairing of Molyneux and Benjamin Binns was the class of the field on Saturday, taking two wins from two starts.
Sunday saw reigning TT sidecar champion Conrad Harrison emulate Moly’s form as he and Lee Patterson closed out the day’s races.
Elsewhere throughout the weekend, there were solid results for Lee Johnston, Dave Hewson, Dan Hegarty amongst many others.
