Weather beats TT qualifying despite best efforts
Despite the best efforts of Gary Thompson, Clerk of the Course, and his team, Wednesday's weather beat the TT qualifying session.
Early indications were that low cloud would affect the hill tops over the Mountain section but the session started on time and Ian Hutchinson used the first lap to clock the first 128mph circuit of 2017. Michael Dunlop was almost as quick on his Bennetts Suzuki, putting 127.23mph on the board.
However, as the first riders crossed the line it was announced the remainder of the field would be short-flagged due to an incident at the Gooseneck and deteriorating visibility on the Mountain.
It was soon announced that Dave Sellars was off at the Gooseneck but was reported to be OK. The news about the rest of the session wasn't so encouraging - Gary Thompson confirming the rest of the evening's qualifying would be run under contingency arrangements whereby the riders would proceed at race speed to Ramsey before being escorted back over the Mountain section under the control of travelling marshals.
In the end only one lap was completed in this manner before weather closed in even further and grounded the airmed helicopters, meaning nothing more could be attempted.
