Hollywood movie star and top musician Jared Leto says he is ‘proud’ to be involved in a film celebrating the Isle of Man TT.

The American actor, singer and songwriter has been confirmed as the narrator for TT3D: Closer to the Edge, the feature-length documentary about the event which is due for UK-wide release on April 22.

Leto has appeared in films such as Fight Club, Panic Room American Psycho, Alexander, Requiem for a Dream, Lord of War, Mr Nobody and Girl, Interrupted. He is also lead vocalist and songwriter for the multi-platinum selling rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. In addition, he directs the band’s music videos under the pseudonym Bartholomew Cubbins and has won many MTV Awards for his work.

After watching an early cut of TT3D: Closer to the Edge, Leto said:

“I’m proud to be a part of this groundbreaking film that celebrates this famous event and the legendary spirit of the men and women who push themselves beyond the limit to places few could even imagine.”

It has also been confirmed music from Thirty Seconds to Mars will feature in the film, including the hit song Closer to the Edge.

The involvement of a Hollywood and music star has already brought interest in the TT and the film from unusual quarters for motorcycle sport – including music magazine NME, the California-based Hollywood Reporter

Economic Development Minister Allan Bell said:

“After many, many months in development and production, we are truly delighted to finally get this unique and thrilling documentary film finished and ready for release to audiences around the world."

"There will undoubtedly be huge interest in the film and we feel sure that it will enhance future TT events and will increase visitor numbers to TT meetings in the years to come."

"The film is a credit to everyone who helped in its creation. The Isle of Man premiere of the film is currently being organised and it is anticipated that the film will screen in Douglas throughout this year’s TT fortnight.”

Steve Christian, chairman of filmmaker CinemaNX and producer of TT3D: Closer to the Edge, said:

“It is really very satisfying to hear everybody’s very positive reaction to the film.”

“Jared’s reaction echoes perfectly the response we have had so far. To hear people talk about our film as humbling and life affirming is incredible.”

“Jared’s admiration for the characters in our film is clear and he will add to what I hope will be a great viewing experience.”

TT3D: Closer to the Edge, directed by Richard de Aragues, follows the leading riders at the 2010 TT and meets some of its biggest stars, in particular Guy Martin and Ian Hutchinson. Martin is a lovable rogue with a unique point of view on life who doesn’t play by the rules. A true maverick, he’s regarded as the “People’s Champion” and his off -road antics continually exasperate his sponsor and race officials. His determination to win his first race pushes him to the limit. Hutchinson, on the other hand is dedicated, focused and works hard to stay at the top.
